A ministry of the Sisters of Mercy providing hope, healing, and a home for persons living with HIV.

Our volunteers are the Heart of the House

Volunteers participate in areas where they are interested as their schedule permits.

We especially encourage volunteers to consider organizing a meal or activity on a weekend or evening when our Activity Coordinator is not here.

Whether you can volunteer once a month or once a week we are happy to have your help! We can use volunteers in the following areas:

30 Years of Mercy Event (Spring 2021)

This year we are celebrating our 30th anniversary! This is a major undertaking that needs volunteers of many kinds including virtually designing materials, social media marketing, event advisory board, and much more!

Walk for AIDS (date TBD)

Many types of volunteer opportunities are available at this yearly event. If the event is held virtually, we can use volunteers who are tech and social media savvy to help us market the event. If we hold the event on site and in person, we need volunteers from managing the water station, to collecting pledges.

World AIDS Day (Dec. 1)

A yearly event in which we gather to commemorate those no longer with us and raise awareness. We will need virtual volunteers to help us with marketing the event and fundraising.

Everyday Opportunities at the House (good for individuals and groups!)

  • Play games with residents: Our residents love to play games; anything from Bingo to UNO.

  • One-on-One Friendships: Make a special friendship with one of our residents who would love a visitor to just talk or mentor them in an area of growth.

  • Yard work and other projects: Our grounds often need some sprucing up or our transport vans can use some regular tidying.

  • Cook meals for our six residents.

We also rely on volunteers for some administrative tasks. This can even be done from your own home! We especially encourage those looking for internships or volunteer service hours to apply at House of Mercy. We have multiple opportunities in our administrative office such as HR Support, Social Media, Fundraising, Grant writing, and compiling data.

All persons regardless of age, race, gender identity, religion, sexual orientation, legal status, or expression of HIV status are eligible to apply for positions as a volunteer. All volunteers must complete a volunteer application and receive training about the House of Mercy policies, procedures and services.

Please note: All volunteers at House of Mercy must undergo a criminal background check prior to being accepted as a volunteer.
