Students from the Masters Social Work class at UNC-Charlotte facilitated an art therapy session with residents on April 8. A variety of self portraits and visual ife stories were created and later displayed at a UNCC art show.
On April 19, resident Judy McQueen shared her life story and the impact of AIDS with a large men's group of AME Zion Church members. She was invited to speak to the group at Livingston College in Salisbury by the Reverend Luke Curry. Hospice & Palliative Care - Charlotte Region celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. On April 22, Sharon Moore, Sr. Director of Clinical Services, and Kristina Behrman, Manager of Client Relations, brought a certificate, cake and drinks to House of Mercy to honor the ongoing collaboration of the two agencies. Residents and staff appreciated the sweet sentiments and treats. On April 29, a group of volunteers from Hickory grilled hamburgers and hot dogs for the residents. Everyone ate outside, enjoying the food, company and new patio furniture. The outdoor furniture was purchased with donations from the St. Joseph Catholic Church Angel Tree and Asheville Catholic School. Resident activities this month have also included trips out for shopping, visits with friends, movies, Chinese food, and early voting!
House of Mercy welcomes our newest board member, Rose L. Bailey. Rose, an attorney, completed United Way's Leading the Way leadership program.
