Approximately 300 participants walked to raise funds for House of Mercy's AIDS ministry on April 9, 2011.

Raises $37,990 as of July 26, 2011 for House of Mercy!

House of Mercy, a nonprofit residence in Belmont, NC serving low-income persons living with advanced AIDS, held its 20th Anniversary Walk for AIDS on Saturday, April 9th.  Three hundred persons participated in the walk on a beautiful spring morning to raise AIDS awareness and funds to benefit House of Mercy.

One Voice Chorus sang a beautiful version of the national anthem to kick off the event, Kimber Walters, House of Mercy's Board Chair, welcomed participants and introduced guest speakers Sister Jill Weber and Honorary Walk Chairman Eric Thomas.  Both spoke about the Sisters of Mercy role in founding House of Mercy 20 years ago and the impact that has been made with ongoing community support.  House of Mercy has been home to over 270 men and women living with advanced AIDS.

2011 Honorary Walk for AIDS Chairman Eric Thomas welcomes the crowd before the Walk for AIDS.

Following the 3-mile walk through historic downtown Belmont, walkers gathered on the House of Mercy grounds for a picnic lunch.  One Voice Chorus performed and DJ Buddy Love provided music and inspiration for dancing.  Stan Patterson announced over $30,500 had been raised to support services at House of Mercy.  Prizes were awarded to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, top fundraising team, and to Scott Cloninger, top individual fundraiser.  Catechism students from Our Lady of Guadalupe raised $4,000, primarily from selling cookies!  St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2nd place team; MC3 Team, 3rd place team; and Adelia Marciano, 2nd place individual, were also among top fundraisers.  House of Mercy extends a heartfelt thanks to all who helped in this fundraising effort.
