December 1, 2009 marked the 21st anniversary of World AIDS Day.

House of Mercy resident with Billie Hutchison, Coordinator of Resident Recreation & Volunteers

House of Mercy participated with RAIN (Regional AIDS Interfaith Network) and other AIDS service organizations in the World AIDS Day Commemoration on Tuesday, December 1st at noon at Trade & Tryon Streets in uptown Charlotte.  Approximately 50 people (including four House of Mercy staff and three residents) participated in the event which included songs performed by Lonnie Green and the reading of the names of persons who have died from AIDS.

Amy Brooks, RAIN minister and Janet Kirkpatrick, House of Mercy resident.

Over a million Americans are estimated to be living with HIV.  Worldwide, there are now 33 million people living with HIV, including 2.5 million children.  Around half of all people who become infected with HIV do so before they are 25 and die from AIDS before they are 35.

Leadership and action are needed now to lead the way to a humane response to AIDS.

Please consider investing in House of Mercy's mission to serve low-income persons in our community challenged by AIDS.  Click here for a personal message from Dr. Mel Tomlinson, a former resident of House of Mercy.  Your gift will support our promise to provide compassionate, competent care and dignity in life and death.
